DEFINICIÓN

Comparatives and superlatives ¿sabes diferenciar su uso?

Mierntras los adjetivos comparativos se utilizan para comparar una determinada característica o cualidad entre dos o más cosas, animales o personas, los adjetivos superlativos expresan el grado máximo de una característica de un elemento con respecto a otros de su mismo grupo o condición.

  • Comparative adjectives se utilizan para comparar una determinada característica o cualidad entre dos o más cosas, animales o personas.
  • Superlative adjectives expresan el grado máximo de una característica de un elemento con respecto a otros de su mismo grupo o condición.

¿CÓMO LOS CREAMOS?

  • En los adjetivos de una sílaba generalmente se añade la terminación final -er en los comparativos. En cuanto a los superlativos, se añade el artículo the delante del adjetivo y la terminación -est detrás.
  • En cambio lo adjetivos de dos sílabas para construir el comparativo se añade mayoritariamente la partícula more delante sin alterar el adjetivo, pero en algunos casos también se les puede añadir la terminación -er, aunque es menos frecuente.

Para formar el superlativo, en cambio, se añade la partícula the most delante sin alterar el adjetivo, o bien se puede añadir el artículo the delante del adjetivo y la terminación -est detrás.
