Do you treat yourself on singles’day? Singles’ Day is a Chinese holiday that originated in 1993 in Nanjing University as a way to honor single individuals. Four “ones,”—11.11— or four singles, correlate to the date. Because four male college students chose this day to commemorate being unmarried, it was originally known 1)….. Bachelor’s Day. Over time, this concept became popular at other institutions and finally made its way 2)….. general society, appealing to both sexes.In addition 3)…… providing a time for social gatherings and partying, the holiday has grown to be one of China’s most well-liked shopping days. As a matter of fact, it is the world’s biggest shopping day event of the year in China. It generates billions of dollars in sales, more than the online sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, and employs celebrities to promote the countdown 4)….. the hours before midnight (celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Pharrell Williams have attended these events). Despite that, Chinese couples are celebrating Singles’ Day 5)…… tying the knot—a practice that is very un-single. For instance, 4,000 couples were married in Beijing, China, in 2011. In contrast, the Chinese city witnesses 700 weddings every day 6)……. average.
Many people experience sadness 7)……. being single. They believe it to be a bad thing, but we disagree! You can concentrate 8)….. yourself when you’re single. Furthermore, you know how they say that prior 9)….. loving someone else, you must first learn 10)….. love yourself. Instead of looking down 11)…… it, we should be celebrating it. This holiday was established to allow single individuals to celebrate their status, and it is currently observed in numerous countries all over the world.
